Virgil Shreeve
Virgil R. Shreeve, age 92, of rural Portland, passed away early Thursday morning in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare.
He was born in Portland on Feb. 17, 1926, the son of Charles and Mable (Schmidt) Shreeve. He was married Aug. 25, 1948, to L. Wanetta Franklin who survives.
He served with the U.S. Army in the 20th Armored Division during WWII. He had worked for Sheller-Globe and was an electrician at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association, Salamonia VFW and Jay County Historical Society.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years Wanetta; two daughters, Marilyn Walker (husband: Carl) of Pennville and Debra Jones (husband: Kerry) of Berne; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Paul VanCise presiding. Burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
