OSSIAN — The Jay County High School girls swim team finished fourth in the season-opening Norwell Invitational on Saturday.
The Patriots totaled 229 points, behind Columbia City (293), Oak Hill (279) and the host Knights (276).
South Adams, which got a pair of victories from Ashley LeFever, was 10th with 61 points.
LeFever won both the 100-yard butterfly and 100 freestyle events in 1 minute, 0.51 seconds, and 56.61 seconds respectively as the only Starfire to finish in the top eight.
Vivienne Kunkler, a JCHS senior, was runner-up in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke. Eliza Bader finished third in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Erica Hathaway placed third in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle.
Ashlyn Dow finished fourth in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle, Rieley Brewster had a pair of seventh-place finishes (200 IM, 100 butterfly), and Elayna Paro was eighth in the 100 breaststroke.
Football teams named
The Allen County Athletic Conference named its all-conference teams recently.
Jay County High School seniors Ryan Schlechty (wide receiver), Parker Grimes (quarterback) and Michael Schlechty (linebacker) each earned first-team nods, while Sam Lavy (defensive end) and Landon Grimes (cornerback) were named to the second team.
South Adams had James Arnold (quarterback), Nick Miller (tight end), Andre Hughes (defensive tackle), Grady Sprunger (linebacker) and Drake Deitsch (defensive back) make the first team, while Drew Stutzman (wide receiver), Grant Besser (wide receiver), Spenser Clark (offensive line) and Christian Summersett (linebacker) named to the second team.
Will ends at state
HEBRON, Ohio — Chloe Will took off nearly 45 seconds and improved 80 places from her junior season as her career came to a close Saturday in the OHSAA Division III Cross Country State Championships at National Trail Raceway.
Will, a Fort Recovery High School senior, crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 30.1 seconds, to place 37th.
As a junior, Will was 117th overall in 21:14.6.
