Fort Recovery speedster LeFevre will run for Fordham

Robby LeFevre burst onto the state scene in 2016.

He was one of two freshmen to compete in the 200-meter dash at the state final, and the only one in Division III.

He left the meet with hardware around his neck.

Two years and five state medals later, he earned a spot to run in college.

LeFevre, a Fort Recovery High School senior, signed a national letter of intent to run track for Division I Fordham University.

“It means a lot,” he said. “Fordham is a really prestigious school.”

Located in Bronx, New York, Fordham is a private institution with a student body of approximately 15,000. The Rams compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference. University of Dayton is also an A10 institution, and LeFevre has a family connection to UD.

That, as well as the coaching staff, facilities, and the draw of the Big Apple all helped Fordham stand out to LeFevre above Findlay, Butler, Xavier and Belmont.

“Fordham has a really good finance program, really good academics and a great location for finance,” he said. “Big city was its own thing. It’s an entirely different world over there.”

LeFevre is not shy to admit he had a bit of a sophomore slump. A foot injury in the preseason held back his times, but he still placed fifth in the 200 dash and joined the 4x100 relay team of Riley Pearson, Jared Timmerman and Brayden Schoen to finish eighth.

Last year, he climbed the podium one spot in the 200 dash while also placing fifth in the 100 dash, his first medal in the race. The relay team, this time with Jacob Acheson, Pearson and Schoen, was again eighth.

“He’s naturally talented,” FRHS track coach Kylee Moody said. “He has a drive to be successful. Those in combination have fared very well for him. Hopefully the right atmosphere will bode well for him.

“I think this is going to be a good fit for him. Looking at the school and the program they have I think he’s going to fit in well. When he came back from his visit he said he felt like he belonged there.”

LeFevre is three-time defending conference champion in the 100 dash, and has won the 200 dash each of the last two years after finishing as the runner-up as a freshman.

Fort Recovery’s boys team was fourth in the Midwest Athletic Conference last spring, and LeFevre is hopeful he can lead the Indians to the program’s first conference championship.

“I’m all set individually,” he said. “I’ve committed. It’s all about the team now.”
