It’s time to start thinking about grants.
The Portland Foundation is now accepting applications for the first grant cycle of 2019.
The application period is open for foundation grants and teacher creativity mini grants. The deadlines for those applications are Jan. 3 and Jan. 10, respectively.
The process to apply for The Portland Foundation Scholarships will open on Dec. 1. The deadline is Feb. 25.

Activities set
Jay County Public Library will host several events in conjunction with Jay County Chamber of Commerce’s Winterfest celebration.
There will be a free showing of the movie “The Man Who Invented Christmas” at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 and a Minnetrista Theater Group presentation of “An Adaptation of a Christmas Carol” at 1 p.m. Dec. 1.
Entries available
Entry forms are now available for Jay County Chamber of Commerce’s Little Miss Winterfest pageant.
The pageant is open to Jay County girls ages 7 through 10. Judging will be based on poise, appearance and a 5-to-10-sentence essay.
Entry forms are available at the chamber office, 118 S. Meridian St., Portland, on its Facebook page or by emailing [email protected]. The entry fee is $25, and the deadline to register is Nov. 26.
The pageant is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 1 in the auditorium at Jay County High School.
Seeking assistance
The Mercer County Angel Tree Program is seeking help with purchasing gifts, volunteering or donating.
Angel Tree provided more than 2,500 gifts to area children last year. Those interested in helping this year can do so by purchasing gifts, volunteering time to shop and wrap or making a donation.
