Dr. Ruth Dudley Edwards will discuss succession to the British throne when she speaks at John Jay Center for Learning on Oct. 22.
Dr. Edwards is the latest in the fall speaker series at John Jay sponsored in partnership with the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center at Ball State University.
A novelist, historian and journalist, Dr. Edwards is currently a columnist for the Irish Sunday Independent.
Her remarks at John Jay are set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. There is no charge, but reservations are required because of limited space.
Drug take-back
Fort Recovery Police Department will have a drug take-back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at village hall, 201 Main St., Fort Recovery.
The event offers the community a chance to properly dispose of any unused or expired medications and prescription drugs. Liquids and needles will not be accepted.
Library events
Fort Recovery Public Library will host “Minding the Business While Changing the World: Reporting and Fiduciary Responsibilities” at 6 p.m. Oct. 30.
The event will serve as training for local non-profit organizations. It will include a review of requirements for charitable organizations and tips for board members.
The library, located at 131 N. Wayne St., will also host a Fort Recovery Friends of the Library meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 30.
Story time is held at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and 10:30 a.m. on Fridays. Music time for babies and pre-schoolers is at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays through Nov. 14.
The library will also host a used book sale Monday through Oct. 20. And a representative from The Mercer County Council on Aging will be on hand from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 to help patrons with questions about Medicare.
Classes scheduled
Mercer Health in Coldwater, Ohio will hold childbirth education classes from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14. For more information, visit mercer-health.com.

Fort Wayne Dermatology will offer free skin cancer screenings in October in Adams County.

Talking Lincoln
The Jay County Public Library Book Club will be discussing the award-winning novel “Lincoln in the Bardo” by George Saunders when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday.

The Red Cross will host blood drives from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at South Adams Senior Center, 825 Hendrick St., Berne, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at Portland Fire Department, 1616 N. Franklin St.
