BUTLER — The Starfires had already knocked off the only ranked team in the sectional Thursday.
They cruised to the title Saturday.
The South Adams High School volleyball team, which beat sixth-ranked Blackhawk Christian in the sectional opener, swept the Canterbury Cavaliers and the Woodlan Warriors on Saturday to win the Class 2A Sectional 36 championship at Eastside.
The Starfires (22-11) beat Canterbury 25-17, 25-11, 25-13 in the semifinal before a 25-16, 26-24, 25-21 win over Woodlan for the program’s third sectional title in four years.
South Adams advances to the LaVille regional and meets Prairie Heights at noon Saturday. No. 4 Andrean and now No. 6 North Judson meet in the other regional semifinal. The final is 7:30 p.m. the same day.
Carlie Sealscott and Shaelynn Bowman led the Starfire offense with 19 kills apiece. Sealscott chipped in with 22 digs.

MARION — The South Adams girls cross country team and a single boy runner earned semi-state berths from the IHSAA regional meet Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Kallee Patch led the SAHS girls by placing fifth overall in 19 minutes, 35.4 seconds. McKenzie Sturwold was 21st, Megan Miller placed 30th, Eliza Harruff finished 43rd and Ella Neuenschwander crossed the line in 56th.
Martinez was 22nd in 17:01.2, finishing sixth among individuals not on advancing teams (the top five teams and top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams make semi-state).
South Adams’ boys, which included Clancy McIntire (58th), Trey Lehman (60th), Race Anderson (68th) and Kam Yoder (84th) were ninth with 229 points.
Tribe struggles
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery football team struggled mightily to move the football Friday in a 20-0 loss to the St. Henry Redskins.
The Indians (4-4, 2-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) managed just 83 yards of total offense and gained three first downs. Meanwhile the Redskins (6-2, 4-2 MAC), which finished 12th in the most recent Division VI Associated Press poll, finished with 384 yards of total offense.
Fort Recovery’s Clay Schmitz completed 10 of his 17 passes for 83 yards and was sacked four times. Derek Jutte traveled 31 yards on 13 carries for the Indians.
The Indians, who have lost five of their last six games, meet defending Division VI state champion Marion Local (8-0, 6-0 MAC) on Friday in Maria Stein.
Jay routs Heritage
The Jay County junior varsity football team ended its season Saturday with a 34-8 rout of the visiting Heritage Patriots.
Dylan Knapschafer had a pair of rushing touchdowns for Jay County (4-5), which also got scores on the ground from Rylee Huftel and Tristin Huftel. Rylee Huftel finished with 109 yards on eight carries, and Tristin Huftel added a pair of 2-point conversions.
Quinn Faulkner also threw a 22-yard TD pass to Rylee Huftel.
