Bragg to speak at historical society event

The president of the Society of Indiana Pioneers will be the featured speaker at the annual dinner meeting of the Jay County Historical Society, set for Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland.
Chuck Bragg, a 1956 graduate of Portland High School and a retired educator, will be wearing a replica uniform from George Washington’s Life Guard which he wore while acting as color guard commander of a unit participating in a ceremony in Paris, France, commemorating the end of the Revolutionary War.
The meal is set for 6:30p.m., and the cost is $10 per person. Reservations and payment must be received at the historical society’s museum by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. No meal reservations will be accepted after that time. The museum is located at the end of East Main Street in Portland.
Bragg, a resident of Fishers, is a former history teacher and school superintendent.
Auction ahead
Arts Place’s annual Holiday Benefit Auction is scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at the facility at 131 E. Walnut St., Portland.
The event, for which doors will open at 5 p.m., will include a variety of items including vacations, artwork and gift certificates. To donate an item, contact Lisa Vogler at [email protected] or (260) 726-4809.
