While in high school, Sophie Bader, Anne Vormohr, Alex Bader and their Patriot swim teams dominated the competition, including the Starfires.
A former Starfire and her collegiate teammates got the best of the Cardinal cousins.
Cady Farlow, a 2015 South Adams High School graduate, picked up one race victory in helping the Purdue University women’s swim team finish first on Oct. 13 in the Indiana Intercollegiate Invitational it hosted.
Farlow, a senior, won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 2.94 seconds. Alex Bader, a 2018 JCHS graduate and Ball State University freshman, was fifth in the race in 1:07.13 as she made her collegiate debut. Farlow swam the breaststroke leg of Purdue’s 200 medley relay team that was runner-up in 1:44.98.
In the 50 freestyle, Anne Vormohr (Jay County – 2016, Ball State) was 10th in 24.78 seconds. Alex Bader (24.82) was 11th and Farlow (24.87) placed 12th.
Alex Bader and Vormohr helped the Cardinals’ 200 freestyle A relay place third in 1:38.6 as they were the third and anchor legs respectively. Vormohr was also sixth in the 100 backstroke in 59.12.
Sophie Bader (Jay County – 2016) was ninth in the 100 butterfly (58.59) and 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:58.96) for Ball State, while also helping the 200 freestyle B relay finish sixth in 1:41.38.
Purdue totaled 866 points to win, and Ball State was a distant second with 454 points.

Kept her place as one of the best defensive players in the nation in helping the Owens Community College volleyball team to six victories.
The freshman registered eight digs in a sweep of Clark State on Oct. 12, and notched 18 digs one day later, a straight-set win over Sinclair.
On Oct. 17, Wendel tallied 12 digs as the Express beat Cuyahoga in three sets. She registered seven, four and seven kills respectively in wins over Columbus State, Hocking and Lakeland.
The defensive specialist has 459 digs on the season, which ranks 16th in all of National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III.
Owens is 31-6 on the year and 15-0 in OCCAC, and on Tuesday became the top-ranked team in the Tachikara Division III rankings.

Competed for the University of Findlay women’s swim team as it lost to Toledo (159-72) and Indianapolis (127-110) on Friday.
Ashton was the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley A relay team that was runner-up in 1 minute, 47.24 seconds. She also anchored the 200 freestyle relay as it placed second in 1:42.03.
In the 100 butterfly, she was fifth in 59.22 seconds.
Brette only competed in one event, UF’s 200 medley D relay. She was the first leg as the quartet was 10th in 1:59.98.

Won an event in his collegiate debut for the Wabash men’s swim team as it hosted the Indiana Division III championships on Saturday.
The freshman won the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 22.23 seconds, edging Dutch Kipp of Rose-Hulman by one-hundredth of a second. There were 30 competitors in the event.
Colpaert was also 11th in the 100 freestyle with his time of 50.54 seconds, and swam the second leg of the 400 freestyle A relay that was third in 3:14.95.
The Little Giants totaled 672.5 points, second to DePauw’s 811.5.

Helped the Purdue University men’s cross country team turn in a top-10 finish for the first time in program history at the Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 13 at Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
The sophomore was fourth for the Boilermakers, crossing the finish line of the 8K race in 24 minutes, 56.4 seconds for 80th place.
Purdue, which is ranked 18th in the nation, totaled 234 points for seventh place out of 34 teams. No. 2 BYU had all five of its scoring runners place 12th or higher as it won the team title with 29 points.

Averaged nearly seven kills per match as the University of Saint Francis volleyball team went 4-2 in its last six matches.
She had seven kills on Wednesday, a 3-0 sweep of Goshen College, a week after registering 10 kills in a 3-2 marathon against Indiana Wesleyan.
During the Grand View Tournament Oct. 12, she had three kills in a 3-0 loss to Ottawa (Kansas) before a 10-kill effort in a 3-0 setback to Trinity Christian. The following day she finished with 10 kills in a 3-1 triumph over St. Ambrose before compiling seven kills as the Cougars (26-7, 13-3 Crossroads League) swept Olivet Nazarene.
Over those six matches she also registered 34 digs and 15 blocks.
Kendra Siefring

Continued to dominate on the defensive side of the net for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team in recent matches.
She had a match high eight blocks to go with a team best 13 kills as the Cougars outlasted Indiana Wesleyan on Oct. 17.
On Wednesday the junior totaled eight kills and five blocks in the Cougars’ sweep of Goshen College.
During the Grand View Tournament, she registered 10 blocks over four matches in the tournament. She also had 24 kills, half of which came in the 3-0 sweep of Olivet Nazarene.
Siefring has 117 blocks on the season, which ranks second on the team and 11th in all of NAIA. Teammate Megan Diagastino’s 121 blocks are eighth in the country.
Kylie Osborne

Tallied 10 or more kills in three of her last five matches for the Anderson University volleyball team.
The junior had 13 kills in a 32 win Wednesday over Defiance to follow a 10-kill performance Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Earlham.
On Oct. 13, Osborne notched 12 kills in a 3-0 loss to Franklin before totaling nine kills in a 3-0 defeat to Alma. Two days earlier she finished with 11 kills as the Ravens (11-15) beat Manchester, 3-0.
Osborne’s 269 kills lead the team.
Kirsten Jutte

Matched her career best for kills in a match on Oct. 12 as the Capital University volleyball team fell to Franciscan, 3-2.
She had a dozen kills on 21 attacks and had a season best 11 digs. It was the most kills in a match since she set a career high on Oct. 17, 2017.
Jutte totaled four kills and a dig in a 3-0 defeat to Mount Union on Oct. 13.
The junior finished with seven kills and two digs in a 3-1 loss to Muskingum, and registered seven kills, five digs and assisted on three blocks as the Crusaders (0-24) suffered a 3-1 setback to Wilmington.
Madi Wurster

Set a new career high for kills in back-to-back matches for the Purdue Fort Wayne volleyball team on Oct. 12 in a 3-0 loss to Denver.
The freshman right side hitter finished with nine kills, besting her previous career high by one she set five days earlier. She also tallied one dig and assisted on a block for the Mastodons.
Wurster notched seven kills and three total blocks during a 3-0 sweep of South Dakota State. She fired eight kills on Friday in a 3-2 triumph over Omaha before recording one kill as the Mastodons (14-10) beat Western Illinois, 3-1.

Reached a new career high in both attacks and kills for the Saint Xavier University volleyball team on Tuesday in a five-set loss to Purdue University Northwest.
The freshman notched six kills, two more than her previous best she set Aug. 28, and did so on 19 attacks. It was the most attacks since her career debut on Aug. 21. She also had a pair of digs and assisted on two blocks.
Weaver finished wth two kills and a dig in a sweep of Roosevelt University on Oct. 18, and had one kill a day later in a 3-2 setback to Indiana Wesleyan.

Was third on the team for the IU South Bend men’s golf team as it competed in the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday in Kohler, Wisconsin.
The freshman had a two-day total of 175 to tie for 75th overall. He shot 85 on day one and 90 on the second day.
Victor Miron of Texas Wesleyan was the individual champion with a 2-over par 146. Texas Wesleyan won the team title with a team score of 593.
Travis Sutter
Fort Recovery – 2017
Competed for the Ohio Northern men’s cross country team on Oct. 12 as it competed in the Jenna Strong Fall Classic at Wilmington College.
The sophomore crossed the finish line of the 8K race in 26 minutes, 29.9 seconds, for 50th place. He was fourth on the team for the Polar Bears, who scored 131 points to finish fourth out of 36 teams.
Olivia Von Gunten
South Adams – 2018
Also competed in the Jenna Strong Fall Classic as part of the Huntington University Foresters.
She was 116th overall in 20 minutes, 56.4 seconds, and third on the squad for the Foresters. Huntington totaled 357 points for 12th place out of 35 squads.
Ball State won the team title with 48 points.
