Donald Smith

Donald Smith, age 77, a former resident of Portland, passed away Tuesday Sept, 4, 2018, at Dayspring of Miami Valley Healthcare Center and Rehabilitation in Fairborn, Ohio. 

Donald was born Nov. 18, 1940, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Bermond and Lelia (Younce) Smith. He was a custodian at Muncie Schools for 27 years and retired in 2001.

Donald was a member of the Jay County Landlords Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Donald married Dianna Elwood on June 25, 1966, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2018.

Survivors include:

One daughter — Danielle Smith, Dayton, Ohio

One son — Devon Smith (wife: Laura), Portland, Indiana 

One brother — Darrel Smith, Loogootee, Indiana

Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the services. Pastor Paul VanCise will officiate the services. Private burial will be held at Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie, Indiana.
