FORT RECOVERY — The Indians are back in the win column. 

Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team bounced back from dropping the first set Thursday to knock off conference rival Minster 22-25, 25-12, 25-11, 25-16.

The Indians improved to 9-1 (2-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) after having their eight-match winning streak end with a non-conference loss to St. Henry in tournament action on Saturday.

Paige Jutte led Fort Recovery with a dozen kills, and Cassy Martin joined her in double figures with 10 kills. Hannah Knapke posted team-highs in both digs (22) and aces (six), while Madi Rammel’s 35 assists were tops on the squad.

Brooke Gaerke finished with eight kills and Rammel had seven.

Olivia Patch led the team with three blocks.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-11, 25-13. 

Whitley Rammel had eight kills and two blocks, Hope Wendel tallied 12 assists and Ashlyn Bechtol finished with 10 digs.



Fort falls to ’Skins

CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys and girls golf teams both lost to the St. Henry Redskins on Thursday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.

The Indian boys lost 167-203, while the girls fell 182-226.

Grant Knapke led the FRHS boys by shooting a 43, including a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole. Zander Kunkler was second on the team with 52, and Carson Rammel was one stroke behind. Derek Locthefeld completed the team score with a round of 55.

Blayne Thobe and Seth Lochtefeld had matching scores of 57, but they did not factor into the team total.

Jalyn Bruns and Alli Vaughn paced the FRHS girls by shooting 53. Devin Jutte shot 58 and Shelby Stammen finished with 62. Paige Bihn (73) and Reagan Grieshop (78) also competed.



Stars top Tigers

BLUFFTON — A balanced attack helped the South Adams volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-18, 25-7 win over the host Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.

Gabriella Bailey led the Starfires (11-5, 2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) with six kills, while Lydia Loshe and Shaelynn Bowman had five kills each. 

Bella Bailey finished with four kills.

Bowman had a team-high eight blocks, Josie Grabau tallied 14 assists and Carlie Sealscott had 13 digs to pair with her four kills.

South Adams’ junior varsity team also won, 24-2, 25-20, 25-11. Katelyn Hamrick had eight kills, Taylor Braun tallied 18 assists and Aaliyah Feaster notched 16 digs.



SA falls to Winchester

GENEVA — The South Adams girls golf team fell to the Winchester Golden Eagles on Thursday, 197-224, at Wabash Valley Golf Club.

Shalya Welch led the Starfires (7-4) with a 46, and Millie Gaskill was second on the team with a round of 55.

Maggie Evans carded a 60 for the third-best score, and Katie Stiltner completed the team total with a 63.

Becca Chamberlin of Winchester earned medalist honors by finishing with a 3-over par 39.



Tribe 7th wins

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh grade football team earned its first win of the season Thursday, knocking off the Minster Wildcats 34-12.

The eighth grade team fell to 0-3 with a 14-0 loss.

Troy Homan led the FRMS seventh graders (1-2) with two touchdowns, as Rex Leverette, Reece Guggenbiller and Owen Knapke had one TD apiece.
