An ammonia leak forced the evacuation of a Tyson Foods plant in Lexington, Nebraska, this week.

The company said in a statement that 20 workers at the plant were transported to the local hospital. At least one worker was admitted to the Lexington Regional Health Center and one was later transferred to a Lincoln hospital. The rest of the injured workers were treated and released.

The statement from Tyson Foods said the plant has been deemed safe. The company resumed normal operations Wednesday.

Tyson Foods is the parent company of Tyson Mexican Original, Portland.

Delivery test

Business Insider reported this week that Walmart is testing whether independent drivers could deliver its groceries.

The retailer is targeting home delivery in more than 100 U.S. cities by the end of 2018.

“The pilot program called Spark Delivery is similar to Amazon Flex, a service from rival Amazon.com Inc where a fleet of drivers use their own cars to make fast deliveries,” the website reported. “Walmart's Spark Delivery is a crowdsourced platform, which works with independent drivers who partner with Delivery Drivers Inc, a separate firm that manages such workers.”

The company’s aggressive expansion into home delivery follows the purchase of Whole Foods by rival Amazon last year.

As of this week, Walmart’s grocery home delivery service is available in nearly 50 markets including Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami and Seattle.

Green light?

It appears the antitrust enforcers of the Justice Department are nearing approval of the CVS Health acquisition of health insurance company Aetna Inc.

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that formal antitrust approval could come in the next few weeks, these people said.

It’s expected that approval will require CVS-Aetna to sell off some of its assets related to Medicare drug coverage, The Journal said.

Set a target

NextEra Energy, parent of Bluff Point Wind Energy Center, this week announced that it has established a target for the reduction of its carbon dioxide emissions rate.

Wind energy like the Bluff Point project has helped the company cut its emissions rate by 52 percent since 2001.

The Juno Beach, Florida-based utility said in a press release that it now plans to reduce the rate by 65 percent by 2021.

"NextEra Energy is committed to creating a sustainable energy future and providing customers with electricity that is affordable, reliable and clean," Jim Robo, chairman and chief executive officer of NextEra Energy, said in a prepared statement. "We've been reducing emissions for decades through the development of renewable energy and modernizing our generation fleet.”
