HARTFORD CITY — Rain threatened, but held off.
And the Patriots moved above .500 for the first time this season.
The Jay County High School boys tennis team picked up a 4-1 victory over the host Blackford Bruins on Monday, improving to 3-2 on the year.
Seniors Xavier Ninde and Gabe Blankenship both picked up singles victories. Ninde defeated Austin Collet at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4, and Blankenship didn’t drop a game to Gage Underwood for his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Sheldon Upp and Crosby Heniser knocked off Kyle Price and Jarret Barker 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of Calvin Whitney and Gavin Randall defeated Myles Cline and Josiah Shafer 6-1, 6-2.
Conner Benter dropped his No. 1 singles match to Straton Stone, 6-4, 6-0.
In junior varsity action, Christian Romero and Konner Sommers both won singles matches against Jeremiah Clark.
Tribe blows by Jets
FORT RECOVERY — The Tribe volleyball team stayed perfect against non-conference opponents Monday, dominating the Franklin Monroe Jets 25-14, 25-14, 25-12.
The win moved the Indians to 10-1 on the year, with their only loss a tournament setback to Midwest Athletic Conference foe St. Henry.
Cassy Martin led Fort Recovery with a dozen kills, and Paige Jutte joined her in double figures with 10. Paige Fortkamp notched nine kills, as Madi Rammel and Olivia Patch both contributed five kills.
Patch’s four blocks were tops on the team, and Rammel led all Tribe players in both assists (33) and aces (four).
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-2, 25-13. Whitley Rammel had a match-high seven kills.
SA gets swept
BERNE — South Adams’ volleyball team got swept by Blackhawk Christian on Monday, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.
Gabriella Bailey had seven kills to lead the Starfires (12-6), who also got six kills apiece from Carlie Sealscott, Lydia Loshe and Shaelynn Bowman.
Bella Bailey and Hannah Dull posted 15 digs, Josie Grabau collected 13 assists and Bowman notched a pair of blocks.
The South Adams junior varsity team won, 25-17, 14-25, 16-14. Savannah Alberson led the team with nine kills.
Jay boys fall
Two goals in the first half proved to be the difference Monday as the Jay County boys soccer team lost to the New Castle Trojans, 4-2.
