MUNCIE — The Patriots all shot the best scores of their careers.
They were left outside the three qualifying spots.
Jay County High School’s girls golf team had its season come to an end Saturday despite a season-best score at the IHSAA sectional tournament at Crestview Golf Course.
The Patriots totaled 413 to finish fourth. The top three teams and top three individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the regional tournament.
Muncie Central won with 355. Delta (378) and Daleville (392) were second and third respectively.
Mackenzie Parks led Jay County by breaking 100 for the first time as she shot 99. Sierra Caster was second on the squad with 103, and Eden Basfort shot 104 for third on the team. Abby Huey completed the team score with 107.
Erika Heitkamp also played but her 108 did not factor into the squad’s total.
SA seventh
BLUFFTON — The South Adams girls golf team finished seventh Saturday in the IHSAA sectional tournament at Timber Ridge Golf Club.
Homestead won the team title with 291. Bishop Luers (359) and Norwell (363) were second and third respectively to earn the final two regional qualifying spots.
South Adams shot 447.
Millie Gaskill shot 103 to lead the Starfires, and Shalya Welch was one stroke behind. Maggie Evans turned in a card of 118, and Katie Stiltner finished with 121.
Jay blasts Bulldogs
CENTERVILLE — Jay County’s boys soccer team blasted the Centerville Bulldogs on Saturday, 7-0.
The Patriots (3-6) led 2-0 before pouring on the goals in the final 40 minutes.
Korbin Auker and Matthew Paquette both scored twice and assisted on another goal for Jay County. Derrian Riojas, Ian McCombs and Gio Perod all tallied goals.
Brayden Mock contributed two assists, as Brinnin Wasson also had a helper.
Cameron Henry turned away all three shots he faced in getting the shutout.
Bullard nets two
CENTERVILLE — Karlie Bullard scored two goals for the second straight game on Saturday as the Jay County girls soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with the Centerville Bulldogs.
Bullard, who is second on the team with eight goals this year, matched the Bulldogs with a goal in each half.
Shelby Caldwell made four saves for the Patriots, who host Delta on Tuesday.
Chief boys win
SELMA — The East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys cross country team won the Selma Invitational on Saturday.
East Jay’s girls were second, while the combined sixth-and-seventh grade boys team was third.
The EJMS boys totaled 52 points to win, led by Thomas LeMaster’s fourth-place finish in 11 minutes, 15 seconds. Tyler Manor (sixth) and Sheldon Minch (11th) also placed in the top 15.
Lyda Keihn (second), Mara Bader (sixth) and Natalie Carreno (seventh) led the EJMS girls as it scored 55 points, eight behind Monroe Central.
In the sixth-and-seventh grade boys race, Cameron Clark and Tony Wood were third and fourth respectively.
Chiefs winless
SELMA — East Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team was 0-4 Saturday at the Selma Invitational.
In pool play, the Chiefs lost to Muncie Southside (25-20, 25-19), Yorktown (25-9, 25-10) and Daleville (25-19, 23-25, 15-12). East Jay lost to South Adams 25-16, 25-12 in crossover play.
Renna Schwieterman collected 10 kills and 16 points, while Lauren Brewster tallied 21 points. Natalie Wehrly notched 10 digs, and Gracie Barnett had eight digs.
