It will take change to end ‘bribes’
To the editor:
This is in response to the Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, letter by Jennifer Keller that was headlined “Funds are a bribe.”
I would like an honest response from someone about lobbying and campaign donations from mega corporations and the ultra rich, like George Soros, the Koch Brothers and various others. Does it matter who is bribing whom, for what ends?
Citizens United opened the door for big money in politics, although the lobbyists have been around and legal for a long time, and influence buying has been a part of that, be it on the local level or the national/international level. It seems as though the only way to put an end to this practice is to elect new people to political office, those who are willing to write laws to end the practice.
It seems as though most politicians are very beholden to that money, which enriches them, so why would they wish to put an end to it?
Then, again, we need to be sure that those elected to enforce such laws will actually enforce them. Until that occurs, it seems as though it will remain business as usual.
Sincerely,
Daniel E. Chase

Thanks, Arts Place
To the editor: Many thanks to Eric Rogers and the staff of Arts Place for helping make Jay County a better place to live and raise a family.
Michael Hicks, director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State University, recently gave a talk to a large group of people at John Jay Center for Learning.
He reviewed 26 studies that revealed jobs move to people rather than previous theories that people move to jobs. In simple terms, people are moving to good school and service communities.
For this reason, we all need to support a diversity of Jay County attractions.
Arts Place conducts events and programs that make a better standard of living for the people of Jay and surrounding communities.
Thanks to you, Arts Place.
Sincerely,
Barry Hudson
