MINSTER and CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School boys and girls golf teams both competed in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournaments Saturday.
Two players earned first team all-conference honors.
The Tribe boys placed fifth at Arrowhead Golf Club in Minster with a team score of 380. Minster totaled 316 for first.
Fort Recovery’s girls totaled 441 to finish sixth at Mercer County Elks Golf Club in Celina. St. Henry finished first with 393.
Grant Knapke and Carson Rammel led the FRHS boys by shooting matching scores of 86 to finish among four players tied for ninth overall.
Knapke, who had 135.5 conference points for the season, was named to first team All-MAC. Rammel had 111.5 points to garner second-team honors.
Blayne Tobe was the No. 3 FRHS golfer with a round of 101, and Derek Lochtefeld completed the team score with a 107.
Jalyn Bruns, a freshman, led the FRHS girls by shooting 99. She was also the lone Tribe member to make first team All-MAC.
Devin Jutte, who earned honorable mention, shot 106 as the Indians’ No. 2 score. Shelby Stammen (115) and Alli Vaughn (121) also contributed to the team total.
Patriots beat Cougars
Jay County’s volleyball team battled the Carroll (Flora) Cougars on Saturday for a 25-22, 25-23, 27-25, 25-20 victory.
Sara Hemmelgarn and Natalie Miles both had a dozen kills for the Patriots (18-6), while Hallie Fields was third on the team with eight.
Alana Kunkler and Hemmelgarn shared the team high with four blocks. Sarah Walter collected a team-best 26 digs, as Miles and Fields finished with 18 and 14 digs respectively.
Pacie Denney collected 34 assists.
Jay County hosts Allen County Athletic Conference rival Southern Wells on Tuesday.
Stars blank Warriors
BERNE — The South Adams girls soccer team picked up yet another shutout on Saturday, 3-0 over the Woodlan Warriors.
Madi Smith finished with two goals and Ali Smith added the other for the Starfires (8-4-1), who have pitched shutouts in six of its last seven games.
Kristen Wynn set up the Smiths to the tune of two assists, and Macie Hirschy had the other helper.
Jenna Myers turned away all 10 shots she faced.
