Hurricane Florence has created a need for blood and platelets, and the American Red Cross is working to help.
The Red Cross has scheduled a series of blood drives in the area, including one from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2 at Jay Community Center.
Additional blood drives are slated for 2 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at Lehman Park Pavilion, 667 Lehman St., Berne; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at First Presbyterian Church, 215 E. Dustman Road, Bluffton and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at Southern Wells High School, 9120 S. 300 West, Poneto.
Helping veterans
VA Northern Indiana Health Care System will hold a series of “stand downs” in order to offer assistance to veterans.
The events are intended as opportunities to reach out to veterans, especially those who are homeless. VA Northern Indiana can provide clothing and meals and connect veterans with other resources.
“Stand downs” are scheduled for 8:40 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Marion YMCA, 123 Sutter Way; 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Anderson Salvation Army, 1615 Meridian St.; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at Fort Wayne’s Franke Park, 3411 Sherman Blvd.
