Richard Cox

Richard L. Cox, 81, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, while in the company of family members at IU Health Jay in Portland, Indiana.

Richard was born in Dunkirk, Indiana, on Jan. 21, 1937, a son of the late Velma L. (Goodyear) and Charles E. Cox. He was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and worked as a Millwright at Kerr Glass, now Ardagh, in Dunkirk, Indiana, for 47 1/2 years until his retirement.

Richard attended Bethel United Methodist Church (Rider Town). He was a member of Local 96 GMP and Boy Scouts of America, and enjoyed fishing, camping and pleasure boating.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years Sherry (Horton) Cox, who he happily married on Dec. 21, 1957. Richard is survived by two daughters and two sons, three of those being local Jay County residents. He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and their spouses.

Friends are invited to call Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Dunkirk Chapel. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brian Drown officiating. Burial will follow in Dunkirk I.O.O.F Cemetery Dunkirk, Indiana.
