FORT RECOVERY — The Indians were a couple innings away from another loss.
A late rally gave them the win.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team scored three runs in the sixth inning for a 4-2 win over the Houston Wildcats.
Trailing 2-1 in the home half of the sixth, Ian Homan singled to start the frame, and Cole Grisez stole second base as his courtesy runner. Joe Homan singled to center to drive in Grisez, and after a Kody Shinabery single and consecutive strikeouts, Regan Martin hit a two-run single for the eventual game-winning runs.
Joe Homan had a pair of singles and also drove in two runs for the Indians, who moved to 4-2 on the year with the victory.
Ryne Post and Shinabery both finished with two hits, whileCobe Wendel collected a single as well.
Joe Homan notched the win on the bump. He threw five innings, allowed six hits, surrendered two runs — none earned — while walking one and striking out two.
Owen Schoen threw two scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts.
Tribe rolls
FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team never trailed as it improved to 4-2 on the year with a 17-8 victory against the Fort Loramie Redskins on Friday.
After the Redskins scored twice in the second inning to tie the game, the Indians broke it open with five runs in the third. Fort Loramie responded with three runs in the home half of the frame before Fort Recovery tacked on two more in the fourth and three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The Indians scored two more in the seventh while holding Fort Loramie to just three runs over the final four innings.
Jackie Homan hit the first home run of her career and Lydia Wenning hit her fourth of the season. Homan drove in five runs, as Brenna Homan, who finished with two doubles, and Wenning knocked in two runs each.
Macy Shinabery and Wenning also had doubles.
Jackie Homan allowed eight runs — two earned — on eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk in six innings.
Stars fall to Braves
BERNE — The South Adams baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, 11-5, to the Bellmont Braves in the home opener at Harry F. Anderson Field.
South Adams (1-1), which was fourth in the preseason Class 2A coaches poll, was trailing Bellmont 2-1 in the fifth inning before the Braves struck for seven runs to put the game practically out of reach.
Aaron Timmons had a double and a walk for the Starfires. Collin Shaffer finished with two singles and a pair of RBIs, whileNic Stuber also contributed two singles.
Shaffer took the loss. In four innings, he gave up two earned runs on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Five Starfire pitchers combined to walk 11 batters.
SA softball loses
BERNE — A late-inning push was too much to overcome for the South Adams softball team in an 8-1 loss to the Carroll Chargers on Friday.
South Adams (2-1), which allowed a run in the top of the first inning, evened the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Carroll responded with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth, including a three-run home run.
The Starfires weren’t able to cut into the deficit over the final three frames as they managed only two hits for the entire game.
Taylor Augsburger doubled, and Jenna Myers singled for SAHS. Megan Miller scored as Augsburger’s courtesy runner.
Nussbaum allowed 12 hits in six innings while striking out 10 and walking two.
