FORT RECOVERY — From the onset, the Indians had trouble getting ahead on the scoreboard.

They pulled even in each of the second and third innings, but fell behind again in the fifth.

The Tribe was able to take the lead an inning later and never let go.

A six-run sixth was enough for the Fort Recovery High School baseball team to grab a 10-5 win over the Minster Wildcats in Midwest Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.

Following a single and a hit batsman to begin the sixth inning, Fort Recovery (6-2, 2-0 MAC) tied the score at five-all on an error. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Joe Homan singled home a pair of runs to give the Indians their first lead of the game. Riley Will put down a sacrifice bunt to score another run, and Regan Martin put up a sac fly to left field to bring home Joe Homan.

Ryne Post singled home Kody Shinabery as the game’s final run.

Cobe Wendel, Joe Homan and Post all had two hits for the Tribe, which got two RBIs apiece from Ian Homan, Joe Homan and Martin.

Riley Post was credited with the win in relief. He struck out a pair, gave up one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery boys and girls track teams both finished third in a three-team meet it hosted.

Coldwater’s girls scored 88.5 points for first, with New Bremen (49.5) and Fort Recovery (46) second and third, respectively.

The Cavaliers also won the boys meet with 69 points. New Bremen was runner-up with 50 points, six ahead of the Tribe.

Kierra Wendel had the lone win for the FRHS girls as she reached the finish line first in the 400-meter dash.

Robby LeFevre got wins in both the 110 and 300 hurdle events, and Jared Timmerman took the top spot in the 100 dash and long jump. Owen Moorman got a victory in the 200 dash.

SA secures win late

FORT WAYNE — South Adams’ baseball team secured its 11-2 win over the Canterbury Cavaliers on Tuesday with more than half of its runs in the final two innings.

The Starfires (4-1) were already ahead 5-2 in the sixth inning before pushing the score to 7-2. Another four runs in the seventh was enough separation while Grant Besser mowed down the Cavaliers over the final three innings.

At the plate, Besser notched five singles and two RBIs, while Collin Shaffer, Nick Miller and Alex Gorney each had a pair of singles. Grady Sprunger and Miller both knocked in two RBIs.

Besser struck out all nine batters he faced in his three innings of relief, pushing his season total to 23 Ks in eight innings. He earned the save for his brother Adam’s victory. Adam Besser threw three innings, allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out three.

Tribe blanked

MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team dropped a 10-0 game to the Minster Wildcats on Tuesday.

Minster (8-0, 1-0) jumped out front 3-0 in the first inning before adding another run in the second. The Wildcats, who out-hit the Indians (5-5, 0-1 MAC) by a 9-2 margin, scored three more times in each of the third and fifth innings to get the lopsided win in five innings.

Lydia Wenning doubled as Fort Recovery’s only extra-base hit. Kim Hart also singled.

Eight of the 10 Minster runs were earned. They were all charged to pitcher Jackie Homan. The freshman walked one and struck out five.
