A walk put the potential winning run on the bases. A single put it in scoring position.

An error ended the game.

Gabe Faulkner scored on an error by the left fielder on Thursday to give the Jay County High School boys baseball team a walk-off win, 4-3, against the Wapahani Raiders.

Michael Schlechty hit a two-run home run, his first of the season, in the third inning to give the Patriots (4-1) a 3-2 advantage over the Class 2A No. 2 Raiders (6-3).

Wapahani tied the game in the top of the seventh before Gabe Faulkner walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh. His younger brother Quinn Faulkner singled to put two on. Cameron Henry singled to left field, and an error allowed Jay County to escape with the win.

Quinn Faulkner had two singles and an RBI, while Ryan Schlechty and Noah Arbuckle each had singles.

Pitcher Brayden Mock picked up his first career win. He got the last out of the seventh inning in relief of Arbuckle, who gave up three runs — one earned — on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked three on 117 pitches.
