BLUFFTON — The girls had 11 victories. The boys had 10.

Together they dominated.

Jay County High School’s track teams cruised past the host Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday.

The JCHS girls won 83-38 on the strength of wins in 11 events, and the boys were first in 10 races for a 76-47 win.

Jay County’s girls were first and second in six total events. Kinsey Shannon won the 100-meter dash with Renee Omstead in second; Ashlyn Dow won the 400 dash ahead of teammates Halle Hill and Chloe Campbell; Abby Benter and Grace Saxman were one-two in 300 hurdles; Lindy Wood won the 800 run in front of Raven Weaver; Calli Stigleman and Dow placed first and second, respectively, in the 200 dash; and Kendal Garringer won high jump with Karlie Bullard second and Hallie Fields third.

Sophia Fugiett (1,600 run) and Vanessa Ong (3,200 run) also had individual victories.

Skyler Myers and Caleb Webster were both dual winners for the boys team. Myers crossed the finish line first in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs, while Webster won the 100 and 200 dash events.

Noah Harris (110 hurdles), Aaron Funkhouser (400 dash) and Isaac Robbins (300 hurdles) also picked up wins.

Both Jay County squads won all three relays.

FR boys first

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys track team took first place in a five-team meet at New Bremen on Tuesday.

The Indians totaled 88 points, edging Fairlawn by six points and St. Henry by eight.

Fort Recovery’s girls totaled 89 points for second place behind the host Cardinals. New Knoxville earned 79 points for third.

Robby LeFevre (200-meter dash and 300 hurdles) and Drew Muhlenkamp (800 and 1,600 runs) each had two individual victories. Jared Timmerman earned the top spot in long jump.

Riley Pearson, Brayden Schoen and LeFevre teamed with Timmerman to win the 4x100 relay, then joined Jacob Acheson for first place in the 4x200 relay. Acheson, Timmerman, Schoen and Muhlenkamp were first in the 4x400 relay.

Cassy Martin was first in the 800 run after combining with Audrey Guggenbiller, Ava Bubp and Chloe Will to win the 4x800 relay.

Kierra Wendel (400 dash) and Will (1,600 run and 3,200 run) also had individual wins.

 

Chief girls second

East Jay Middle School’s girls track team finished second on Monday in a three-team meet with South Adams and Woodlan at Jay County High School.

South Adams totaled 82 points for first, and East Jay had 32.5 points for second.

The Woodlan and South Adams boys tied at 46 points, with East Jay earning 45 points for third.

Lydia Keihn had two wins for the EJMS girls, taking the top spot in the 1,600- and 800-meter runs. Chelsea Frantz also picked up a win in shot put. 

Joseph Kunk won both the shot put and discus events. Josh Dowlen (110 hurdles) and Isaac Kunkler (high jump) also had wins.
