BERNE — The Starfires’ seven-game winning streak was on the verge of ending.
A 6-2 deficit after the first two innings appeared too much to overcome.
A late rally kept the streak alive.
The South Adams High School softball team scored six straight runs on Monday to push its winning streak to eight games with an 8-6 rally over the Fort Recovery Indians.
Fort Recovery (9-9) took a 3-2 lead after the first inning and pushed the score to 6-2 in the second. But the Starfires (10-1) slowly started to chip away. They scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth for the come-from-behind win.
Kayla LeFever led South Adams with three hits, while Taylor Augsburger, Anna Nussbaum and Mallory Hirschy each doubled and singled as well. Jenna Myers collected a pair of singles as well.
Lydia Wenning blasted her eighth home run of the season while driving home three runs.
Nussbaum threw the final five innings for SAHS, didn’t allow a hit and struck out 10 to get the win.
