Donna Wherry

Donna Mae Wherry, age 91, of Portland passed away Monday, April 22, 2019, at Indiana University Health Jay Hospital.

She was born in Portland on May 22, 1927, the daughter of Robert and Mable (Pensinger) VanMatre. She was married June 23, 1951, to Robert Wherry Sr., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2018.

She was retired after 35 years from Jay County Sheriff's Office, starting there in 1962. She attended Fellowship Baptist Church and was a 1945 Poling High School graduate.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie Irwin (husband: Tim) of Portland and Jama Pensinger (husband: Guy) of Portland; four grandchildren, Lacey Ninde (husband: Dan), Keia Wood (husband: Joe), Cale Hearn (wife: Dia) and Corey LeMaster; seven great-grandchildren, Xavier, Maebry, Spencer, Jacob, Cooper, Ashlynn and Madalynn.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Wherry.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 26, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Kelly presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.
