Tommy Derringer

Tommy J. Derringer, age 78, of Van Wert, Ohio, and former Jay County resident passed, away Tuesday in the Van Crest Health Care Center.
He was born in Jay County on Oct. 29, 1940, the son of Charlie and Ruth (Hastings) Derringer. He was married in 1962 to Betty J. Sills, and she passed away in 2018.
He was a supervisor for Dana Corporation in Marion and also had worked at Union City Body Co.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Portland Moose Lodge, Alexandria Eagles Lodge, Jay County Conservation Club, North American Hunting and Fishing Association and American Rifle Association.
Surviving are one sister, Nancy Derringer, of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; a daughter, Vicky Heimann; brothers Jimmy and Bobby Derringer; and sisters Patty Jo Kelly and Peggy Montgomery.
Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hines presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m.
