Lilly applications are available now

As the seniors begin the school year this week, they should also be looking forward to post-secondary life.

The Portland Foundation is now accepting applications for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

The Lilly scholarship is open to high school seniors. It provides tuition to any Indiana college in addition to a yearly stipend for books and equipment.

Applications are available at portlandfoundation.org. The deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 3

Winners announced

Lucia Valero earned the top prize at Arts Place’s Summerfest Juried Art Show.

Valero earned a $400 prize for “Self-Portrait,” finishing ahead of Carol Kennedy (second place), Carol Strock Wasson (third place) and Tom Brown (fourth place) out of 38 Indiana artists who submitted 103 pieces for the show at Blackford County Arts Center.

Earning honorable mention were Kathy Ayers, Mary Ellen Bertram, Bob Brower, Patrick Kluesner, Larry Fentz, Sheila Piazza, Rodney Reveal, Lisa Rush and Jenny Moore Smith.

The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 4.

Accepting

Our Home Family Resource Center is accepting donations for its Mercer County Back-to-School Supply Drive. Items needed include folders, glue, markers, pencils, crayons, paper, erasers, scissors, dry-erase markers, highlighters and earbuds. They will be donated to Mercer County students.

Shows scheduled

Charles W. Brown Planetarium at Ball State University in Muncie will host free shows this summer.

The programs “Astronaut” and “Moons: Worlds of Mystery” will be held at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on Friday.
