The Patriots played their first dual match of the season Thursday.

They got the best of the Bearcats at home.

Jay County High School’s girls golf team won its dual match opener against the Muncie Central Bearcats, 193-203, at Portland Golf Club.

Mackenzie Parks paced the Patriots with her round of 44, and senior classmate Eden Basford was two strokes behind at 46.

Tea Nichols was the team’s No. 3 scorer with her 51. Raquel Wehrly and Erika Heitkamp both shot 52 to complete the Patriots’ total.



Tribe takes fifth

CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team took fifth place Thursday in the Celina Girls Invitational at Celina Lynx.

St. Henry shot 372 to win the 12-team tournament. Versailles (383) and Coldwater (404) were second and third respectively. The Indians finished with 410.

Jalyn Bruns matched her school record of 83 to lead the Tribe. Shelby Stammen shot an even 100, and Paige Bihn was third on the team with 111. Macy Brunswick rounded out the score with 116.

Alli Vaughn also competed, and she shot 122.

St. Henry’s Ellen Neumann carded 79 to win the individual championship.



Indians fall to ’Cats

MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team lost to the Minster Wildcats on Thursday, 164-211 at Arrowhead Golf Club.

Grant Knapke birdied the par-3 13th hole and made par three times on his way to a team-best 43. Carson Rammel and Cole Muhlenkamp, who had one par each, both finished with 54. Zander Kunkler and Russel Gehle had matching scores of 60 to round out the Tribe’s team total.

AJ Romer shot 66.

Minster’s Grant Koenig shot 2-over-par 38 to earn match medalist.
