A local organization is offering opportunities to learn about criminal investigation, marketing, travel and a variety of other topics.
John Jay Center for Learning’s fall speaker series kicks of Tuesday with the first of four sessions with former Indianapolis-Marion County Forensics Service Agency director Mike Medler.
The first session with Medler will cover serology and DNA analysis. Future sessions include arson and explosive devices Sept. 24, forensic document examination Oct. 29 and a mock crime scene Nov. 20.
Other topics to be covered during the series include marketing for small businesses Aug. 29, the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association Show on Sept. 12 and The Remnant Trust on Sept. 19.
All speaker series events begin at 6:30 p.m.

Randa Gillespie and Shayla Rigsbee, both of Portland, were named to the Manchester University dean’s list for the spring semester. In order to receive the honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ new Muncie Altrusa Foundation Beulah Frogge Digital Arts Studio will have its grand opening Aug. 24 with a stop-motion workshop led by Disney artist and animator Brad Condie.
There will be a session from 1 to 3 p.m. for 8- to 11-year-olds and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 12- to 15-year-olds. All attendees will participate in creating a short film
