Ruth “Jean” Grim, age 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Aug. 5, 2019, at her residence.
She was born May 7, 1927, the daughter of Bernard and Edna Leona (Stuber) Hilfiker. She was married Aug. 12, 1973, to Donald Grim who survives.
Jean grew up on a farm near Salamonia and was a member of Salamonia United Church of Christ. She graduated from Portland High School in 1945.
In her early years, she worked at Weiler's Department Store. She also worked at Montgomery Ward in Portland. In 1961, she moved to Muncie and managed the Montgomery Ward Store there until her retirement.
In 1985, Jean and Don moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. They were active members in the North Port Community United Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband Don; one son, Jim Beeler (wife: Sharon) of Portland; one daughter, Judy Avery (husband: Tom); step-son Terry Grim (wife: Rea); step-daughters Kathy Gant (husband: Jeff) and Elaine Casados (husband: Randy); grandchildren Lauranne Hauck, Brad Beeler, Becki Rigby of Portland, Matthew Avery, Kenny Avery, Lori LeValley, Ryan Grim, Leah Sours, Jaimie Reese, Renee Riley, Jared Grim, Jason Grim, Katie Ryan, Kelly Gant, Nick Gant, Kodi Thurston, Travis Casados and Amy Copeland; and 34 great-grandchildren
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. at Salamonia United Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Salamonia Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Salamonia Church of Christ or choice of the donor.
