Irene M. James, age 97, of rural Portland passed away Monday evening, Aug. 19, 2019, in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare.
She was born in Jay County on June 23, 1922, the daughter of Virgil and Mary (Schmidt) Theurer. She was married June 27, 1941, to Roy C. James and he passed away on June 17, 1997.
She had worked at Berne Furniture and was a Bryant High School graduate. She was also a polio survivor.
Surviving are one son, Ed James of Portland; two daughters, Judy Toms Medler (husband: Neil) of Portland and Mary Lou Kravitz (husband: Brent) of Corydon, Indiana; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann James
A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Choice of the donor.
