Special events set for September

Local churches have special events scheduled for September.
Southside Church of Christ will have a gospel meeting and a movie night, and Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene will host a guest speaker.
The gospel meeting will run for three days — Sept. 8, 9 and 10 — beginning at 6 p.m. Movie night is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 22. The church is located at 1209 S. Shank St., Portland.
Robert Rogers of Might in the Land Ministry, an effort he started after losing his wife and four children in a flash flood in Kansas in 2013, will speak at Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 22. He will share his message about how to “live a life with no regrets.
Lunch will be served after the presentation. The church is located at 401 E. Boundary St.
Field day scheduled
Davis-Purdue Ag Center’s Field Day is scheduled for Aug. 29.
The event, which will begin at 8 a.m., will include sessions about hitch pins, weed management, a corn update and a soybean update. There will be a forest management tour in the afternoon.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ new Muncie Altrusa Foundation Beulah Frogge Digital Arts Studio will have its grand opening Saturday with a stop-motion workshop led by Disney artist and animator Brad Condie.
There will be a session from 1 to 3 p.m. for 8- to 11-year-olds and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 12- to 15-year-olds. All attendees will participate in creating a short film
The workshops are free, but pre-registration is required by emailing [email protected] or calling (765) 281-9503.
Book sale set
Friends of the Jay County Public Library is holding its annual book sale today through Saturday.
In addition to books, there will also be games, music, puzzles, movies and other items for sale.
The event will be open to the public until 7 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Items will be available by the bag ($3) and box ($5) on Aug. 24 only. The library is located at 315 N. Ship St., Portland.
