A Jay County native will be the new leader of economic development in Adams County.

Colton Bickel has been named executive director of Adams County Economic Development Corporation. He will start his new position Sept. 3.

He takes over for Larry D. Macklin, who was serving as the corporation’s interim executive director following the departure of Trevor Hobbs.

Bickel has served as executive director of Blackford County Economic Development Corporation since June 2017.

A Jay County High School graduate, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2012. He then joined Fort Wayne’s Sturtz Public Management Group, where he had interned during college.



Awarded

Donald Gillespie of Portland was selected as the winner of the Christine M. Gross Memorial Scholarship.

Gillespie, a senior loan officer and credit union financial counselor at CrossRoads Financial Federal Credit Union, will get travel, lodging and registration costs paid for the Indiana Credit Union League Annual Meeting and Convention in late October.



Events scheduled

Geneva Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual golf outing Sept.  21 at Wabash Valley Golf Course.

The chamber will also hold a lunch Sept. 10 and a senior luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at First United Methodist Church. Its annual meeting is scheduled for Nov. 14.

Apartments planned

Southern Ohio developer Miller-Valentine Group is seeking to construct townhouse-style apartments on Irmscher Boulevard in Celina.

Celina City Council recently approved, on first reading, legislation to rezone about 5.4 acres at Miller-Valentine’s request, The Daily Standard reported. The company is seeking to purchase the property from Troy Town LLC.

Plans call for the company to break ground on a 120-unit complex in the spring.



Expanding

Walgreens and Kroger announced Monday that they will expand their partnership.

The companies plan to add Kroger Express and Kroger Pickup services this fall to 35 Walgreens locations in Tennessee, Supermarket News reporter

Walgreens brand health and beauty products will also be sold in 17 Kroger stores in the Knoxville area.

“Our growing relationship with Walgreens is just one more way Kroger is making life easier and better for even more customers, because everyone deserves to have affordable, easy-to-enjoy, fresh food,” Kroger vice president of new business development said in a press release. “Expanding our pilot to Knoxville demonstrates the ongoing success and future potential of bringing together the best of Kroger’s food authority with Walgreens’ global expertise in health and beauty.”
