Cheer clinic begins Sept. 4

Get ready to cheer.
The Jay County High School cheerleaders will host their clinic for preschool through fifth graders next month.
Clinic sessions are scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 9 and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11. Participants will then get to cheer with the Patriot cheerleaders during the JCHS football team’s game Sept. 13 against Adams Central.
The registration fee is $25 for one children, $35 for two in the same family and $40 for three or more. Each participant will receive a t-shirt.
Registration will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 4.
Workshop set
“Weathering the Storm in Agriculture,” a program being put on by Jay County’s Purdue Extension office and Jay County Farm Bureau, will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at Homan Farms, 6285 N. 1025 West, Pennville.
The event will feature Kelly Heckaman, a Kosciusko County Purde Extension educator focusing on agriculture and natural resources, and Angela Sorg, a DeKalb County Purdue Extension educator focusing on health and human sciences.

Loans available
Small Business Administration loans are available to farmers to help them recover from damages and crop losses from severe storms, high winds and tornadoes that came through the area May 27 through 29. Eligible counties include Jay and Adams counties in Indiana and Mercer County in Ohio.
Those interested can apply at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. The deadline has been extended to Sept. 3.
Field day scheduled
Davis-Purdue Ag Center’s Field Day is scheduled for Thursday.
The event, which will begin at 8 a.m., will include sessions about hitch pins, weed management, a corn update and a soybean update. There will be a forest management tour in the afternoon.
The center is located at 6230 Indiana 1, Farmland. To make a reservation for the event, call (765) 584-2271.
