Chiefs sweep race at Delta

MUNCIE — The Chief boys dominated the race, taking four of the top five spots.

The girls were just as strong, putting five in the top seven.

East Jay Middle School’s boys and girls cross country teams both finished first in a meet with Delta, West Jay and Wes-Del at Muncie Sportsplex.

Cameron Clark and Tony Wood were first and second, respectively, helping the Chiefs to a team score of 28. Delta scored 42 for second and West Jay had 63 for third.

East Jay’s girls scored 23 points for the win, Delta (36) was second and Wes-Del (74) placed third.

Clark had a time of 12 minutes, 12.97 seconds, to win, and Wood was 10 seconds behind him. Jacob Monroe finished fourth, Creed Beiswanger was fifth and Gabe Pinkerton placed 16th.

Liam Garringer (ninth) and Jackson Edwards (12th) were the top West Jay runners.

Natalie Carreno (14:01), Ayla Grabner (14:28.3) and Alexis Sibray (14:28.72) were second, third and fourth respectively for East Jay’s girls squad. Paityn Wendel finished sixth and Emily Manor finished 10th.

Lucy Raines (seventh), Makinsey Murphy (ninth) and Hailey Ayala (14th) ran for West Jay.

Chiefs sweep RJ Baskett

East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both defeated RJ Baskett on Tuesday.

The eighth grade squad grabbed a 25-11, 25-19 victory, as the seventh graders dominated 25-9, 25-5.

Sophie Saxman led the eighth grade team with four kills and four assists, while Bella Denton and Maggie Dillon had three kills each. Joske Herndon finished with eight points, and Brenna Haines tallied seven points to go with her team-best six aces.

Riah Champ collected three digs.

Alyssa Aker’s three kills led the Chief seventh graders. Courtney Harris had two kills. Meredith Dirksen tallied a whopping 24 points, including 10 aces, as EJMS totaled 19 aces for the night.
