Eldon Stevens Sr., age 84, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at his home in Portland.
He retired from Portland Forge after 35 years. After retirement, he was a crossing guard for Jay School Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked part-time for several years as an assistant for Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.
He attended the Church of the Brethren in Portland.
Eldon Stevens was born May 22, 1935, in LaFontaine, Indiana, the son of Arthur and Millie Stevens. He was married in 1962 to Bernice Jobe and she passed away in 1987. He then married Marjorie (Hastings) Miller in 1988 and she passed away in 2012.
Survivors include:
One sone — Ernest Stevens (wife: Lisa), Portland
One step-daughter — Janet Taylor (husband: Mark), Springfield, Tennessee
Two sisters — His twin sister Elda Mae Weaver (husband: Don), Kokomo, and Eva Booher, Marion
Four grandchildren and several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Eldon Jr. and Earl Stevens; one daughter, Janice Reynolds; five step-children; five brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Kevin McClung officiating.
Burial will follow in Salamonia Cemetery southeast of Portland.
Portland American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of military rites.
