Jay County Fairgrounds is a finalist.
Grinnell Mutual announced Jay County Fairgrounds this week as one the 15 finalists for its 2019 Fairground Facelift initiative.
Grinnell will donate a total of $7,000 to five fairgrounds projects based on voting on the company’s Facebook page. The top vote-getter will received $3,000, with the next four receiving $4,000 apiece.
Jay County applied for funding for improvements to the Horse Arena. It is competing with fairgrounds from across the country, including two finalists each from Pennsylvania, Nebraska and Iowa.
Those interested in voting can do so by visiting bit.ly/JCFHorseArena. The deadline to vote is noon on Sept. 12.
Workshop set
“Weathering the Storm in Agriculture,” a program being put on by Jay Count’s Purdue Extension office and Jay County Farm Bureau, will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at Homan Farms, 6285 N. 1025 West, Pennville.
The event will feature Kelly Heckaman, a Kosciusko County Purde Extension educator focusing on agriculture and natural resources, and Angela Sorg, a DeKalb County Purdue Extension educator focusing on health and human sciences.

Loans available
Small Business Administration loans are available to farmers to help them recover from damages and crop losses from severe storms, high winds and tornadoes that came through the area May 27 through 29. Eligible counties include Jay and Adams counties in Indiana and Mercer County in Ohio.
