FORT RECOVERY — The Indians have aspirations of being conference champions.

They got through the first match with ease.

Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team picked up its first Midwest Athletic Conference win Thursday in disposing of the Parkway Panthers 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

Paige Fortkamp paced the offense for the Indians (5-0, 1-0 MAC) by recording eight kills. Her four blocks shared the team lead with Olivia Patch, who contributed six kills in the win. Whitley Rammel collected seven kills and a pair of blocks as well.

Hope Wendel, Chloe Showalter and Brenna Homan had three aces each. Hope Wendel also tallied 11 assists, and Kierra Wendel finished with 13 digs.

Parkway fell to 3-1 (0-1 MAC).

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won. Grace Guggenbiller and Lilie Leuthold had four kills apiece, and Emma Kahlig totaled 10 assists.



Golfers beat Flyers

The Fort Recovery boys golf team knocked off the Marion Local Flyers, 185-199, on Thursday at Portland Golf Club.

Grant Knapke, a senior, was solid on both par 3s and both par 5s, as he was even on those four holes. He had four bogeys and one double bogey on his way to a 6-over-par 41 to earn match medalist. Carson Rammel had a pair of pars and shot 46, one stroke ahead of Derek Lochtefeld. Cole Muhlenkamp completed the team score with 51.

The Indians moved to 2-3 in Midwest Athletic Conference play.

Zander Kunkler (52) and Russell Gehle (54) also competed but they did not factor into the Tribe’s total.



Second sinks Jay

MUNCIE — Two second-half goals doomed the Jay County boys soccer team on Thursday in a 3-1 loss to the Delta Eagles.

Jay County (2-2) and Delta were locked in at one goal apiece after 40 minutes, and following intermission the host Eagles broke the tie to make it 2-1 and added an insurance goal as well.

Cristian Marentes put the Patriots on the board with a goal on a penalty kick in the first half. His tally moved him into the team lead with four goals on the season.

Ian Ruiz recorded five saves as goalkeeper.

Jay County’s junior varsity team played to a scoreless draw.



Indians beat Flyers

CELINA, Ohio — Jalyn Bruns shot 46 in Thursday, leading the Fort Recovery girls golf team past the Marion Local Flyers 212-237 at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.

Alli Vaughn was second for the Tribe (1-1 MAC) with 52, and Shelby Stammen shot 54 for third. Kendra Dues carded 60 as the final scoring Indian.

Trisha Gaerke and Paige Bihn shot 61 and 69 respectively, but they did not influence the team total.



Jay falls to Richmond

RICHMOND — The Jay County girls golf team lost to the Richmond Red Devils, 182-222, on Thursday at Richmond Elks Lodge & Country Club.

Mackenzie Parks led the Patriots in the loss with her round of 50, and Abby Huey returned from an ankle injury to take second on the squad with 56. Huey edged teammate Erika Heitkamp by one stroke.

Raquel Wehrly’s 59 completed the team score, and Tea Nichols also competed and shot 68.
