Charles Fields
May 2, 1943-Nov. 20, 2019
Charles Richard (Dick) Fields, 76, of Bryant, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, while in the company of family members due to injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Charles was born in Randolph County on May 2, 1943, a son of the late Ruth V. (Matchett) and Elmer A. Fields. Dick attended Saratoga School and was owner and operator of C&N Transport until his retirement in 2001.
Following retirement, he continued his love of truck driving with GLM & CCL transport companies.
Dick was a social butterfly who never knew a stranger. He was often seen enjoying a good cup of coffee and a cigarette while “shootin’ the bull” at a truck stop. He also enjoyed working on cars and trucks, mowing, watching NASCAR and Indiana University basketball, listening to southern gospel music and spending time with his grandkids.
Dick’s ornery nature, great sense of humor and contagious laugh will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by the love of his life Tish Fields; nine children, Laura McCammon, Kim Grillot, Holly Fields, Kerry and Jennifer Fields, Teresa and Duane Herman, Jozie and Tony Tackett, Tyler and April Snipes, Chelsea and Tyler Aker, and Roxanne Fields; nine siblings, Harold and June Alley, Norma Cramer, Robert and Mary Fields, Tom and Kay Baker, Kenny and Kathie Cook, Carl and Janet Reinhart, Pat and Art Harris, and Joyce Thomas; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Keith Fields; and a sister, Karen Shawver.
Friends are invited to call Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, from 1 to 3 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with Reverend Wilbur Taylor officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel.
