Hits building
An estimated $5,000 to $10,000 in damage was reported when a pick-up truck struck the Moser Motors building at 1509 N. Meridian St., Portland, about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday.
Pearl B. Gowins, 81, Portland, told Portland police she had pulled into a parking space to have her 1994 Ford F-150 serviced when the truck moved forward and hit the building. Police said she may have inadvertently stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, resulting in the accident.
Backing mishap
A bus owned by Fellowship Baptist Church backed into a parked vehicle in the church parking lot, 289 S. 200 West, about 9:05 a.m. Tuesday.
Gerald W. Nichols, 51, rural Portland, told police he did not see a parked 2010 Dodge pick-up when he was backing up the church bus.
The pick-up is registered to Robert L. Frazee, rural Portland.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Rear-ended
A Portland man’s SUV was struck in the rear about 11:10 a.m. Tuesday while stopped for a traffic light at North Meridian and Votaw streets in Portland.
Ronald L. Willis, 46, told Portland police he had stopped his 2007 Chrysler Pacifica when it was hit by a 2008 Ford F-150 driven by Ryan J. Muhlenkamp, 38, Berne. Muhlenkamp told police he had stopped behind the Chrysler and thought it had moved forward when the collision occurred.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer hit
A 2014 Ford Explorer driven by Melissa A. Sudhoff, 29, Fort Recovery, struck a deer about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday on county road 400 North near county road 450 East. She told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was westbound on county road 400 North when the deer jumped into the roadway.
According to a report a made available today, a a 2012 Honda Accord driven by Austin T. Bentz, 25, rural Portland, struck a deer about 5:50 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 27 at county road 300 North. Bentz told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was northbound on U.S. 27 when the accident occurred.
