ANDERSON — The Patriot girls picked up six individual wins Thursday. They came from five different swimmers.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team used a balanced lineup to cruise to a 118-58 victory over Anderson Indians. The boys team lost 116-67.
Eliza Bader was the lone double winner for JCHS, taking first with times of 1 minute, 13.3 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:21.53 in the 200 individual medley. Ashlyn Dow took the 100 freestyle by more than seven seconds in 57.92, and other wins came from Mara Bader (27.6 in the 50 freestyle), Erica Hathaway (1:06.8) in the 100 butterfly and Rieley Brewster (1:10.82) in the 100 backstroke.
Griffin Mann recorded the only individual victory for the boys team as he took the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.98.
FR falls at buzzer
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team was the victim of a buzzer-beater Thursday as it fell 42-40 to the Versailles Tigers.
The Indians (2-1, 0-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) got doubled up — 16-8 — in the opening period before dominating the second to take a five-point lead into halftime.
They were up by two heading into the fourth quarter only to suffer the loss on a last-second shot by Lindsey Winner of Versailles (4-1, 2-0 MAC).
Val Muhlenkamp scored 11 points to lead Fort Recovery in the loss. Whitley Rammel had nine points, and Paige Fortkamp scored eight.
Winner tallied half of her game-high 12 points for Versailles in the fourth quarter. Caitlin McEldowney hit two 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.
Chiefs move to 4-1
Both East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams improved to 4-1 Thursday as the eighth graders topped Woodlan 26-15 while the seventh grade squad posted a 32-15 victory.
The EJMS eighth grade squad got 11 points from Sophie Saxman to lead the way. Breanna Dirksen added six points, and Cash Hollowell scored five.
Layliana Eldeeb and Natalie Carreno each had eight points to pace the East Jay seventh graders. Cassie Petro followed with five points.

WOODBURN — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team got its first win of the year Thursday by a 44-26 score over the host Woodlan Warriors. The seventh grade squad lost 57-19.
Zac McAbee reached double figures with 11 points to lead the EJMS eighth graders. Samy Myers added eight points, Abraham Dirksen scored seven and Simon Pryor and Wesley Bihn each had six.
Eli Dirksen’s seven points were a team high for the Chief seventh graders. Leighton Overton and Levi Muhlenkamp each had five points.
