Jackie Younger

Jackie L. Younger, 87, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away at 5:07 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, while in the company of family members at Persimmon Ridge in Portland, Indiana.
Jackie was born in Dunkirk, Indiana, on Aug. 4, 1932, a son of the late Nellie A. (Davis) and Kenneth L. Younger. He was a 1952 graduate of Redkey High School and played for the Redkey Wolves basketball and softball teams.
Jackie served as an engineer in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1952 to 1954. While in service, Jackie had the opportunity to play baseball and basketball for the U.S. Army. He continued his love of sports throughout his life on and off of the field and court watching Indiana University basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.
He was employed as a truck driver for 3M until his retirement in 1994.
Jackie was the loving husband of Reva L. (Carpenter) Younger, who he happily married on Oct. 24, 1952. He was an avid member of the Redkey Nazarene Church, holding many positions over the years such as superintendent, song leader and trustee.
Jackie was a positive role model to all and enjoyed spending time with and attending any event in support of his family.
Jackie is survived by his wife Reva; daughters Deb McFarland (husband: Robert), Diane LeMaster, Darlene Paxson and Denise Kirby (husband: Mike Pfeifer); brother Dave Younger (wife: Jean); two sisters, Betty Jacobs (husband: Bill) and Gladys Sain; seven grandchildren, Chad McFarland (wife: Kim), Ryan McFarland (wife: Laura), Adam Koehler (wife: Holly), Amie Baumgartner (husband: Matt), Brent Kirby, Corey LeMaster and Kyle Enterline; 11 great-grandchildren, Brock, Chase, Alex, Conner and Cody McFarland, Zander, Zach and Colton Baumgartner, Rocco and Cooper Koehler, and Michael Enterline; several nieces and nephews; and special family at heart, Brad and Cindy Rausch and family from Rochester, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Donna Belt and Ida Helm.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel and Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Redkey Nazarene Church. Funeral services will follow on Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rob Farris officiating. Burial will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery Redkey, Indiana, with military honors provided by the Dunkirk American Legion Post #227.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Redkey Nazarene Church Building Fund.
