Greg Hummel, age 68, a resident of rural Portland, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019.
Greg was a member of Walnut Corner Church where he was the song leader. He was a member of the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and Gideons International. He enjoyed restoring tractors and camping.
He was a 1969 graduate of Portland High School and a lifetime farmer in Greene Twownship, Jay County. He worked for Sheffer-Weinland in Portland, then worked for 33 years with CTS in Berne and retired from Tyson Foods in Portland.
Greg Hummel was born March 20, 1951, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Louis and Nilah (Spade) Hummel. Greg was married on Aug. 29, 1970, to Bessie Gray.

His beloved wife of 49 years — Bessie Hummel, Portland
One son — Gene Hummel (wife: Jeni), Portland
One daughter — Charity Pearson (husband: Chad), Portland
One sister — Lois Forte, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Six grandchildren — Caleb Hummel, Radney Pearson, Levi Hummel, Brandt Pearson, Noah Hummel and Leah Hummel
Four great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Hummel; sister Vivian Brewster; and a brother, Duane Hummel.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Herb Hummel and Pastor Steve Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Liber Cemetery south of Portland.
