CONVOY, Ohio — The Indians eked out a two-point win Friday over Parkway.

Saturday’s game was even closer.

Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team erased a five-point halftime deficit to knock off the host Crestview Knights 49-48.

The Tribe (3-1) managed just six second-quarter points to fall behind 28-23 at the half. But it closed to within one by the end of the third quarter and got scoring from six different players — Regan Martin, Derek Jutte, Brian Bihn, Ryne Post, Gavin Thobe and Clay Schmitz — in the fourth to take the win.

Grant Knapke scored all of his team-high 11 points in the first three quarters before his teammates took over. Schmitz followed with nine, and Martin had half of his eight in the final period.

Kalen Etlzer’s 18 points led Crestview, but he had just three after halftime. Carson Kreischer added 16 points.



Fourth in ACAC

The host Jay County wrestling team placed fourth with a 3-3 record in the Allen County Athletic Conference Duals that concluded Saturday.

After splitting with Heritage and South Adams on Friday, the Patriots defeated Woodlan 54-27 and Southern Wells 48-36 Saturday but lost 52-21 to champion Bluffton and 44-33 to Adams Central. Bluffton was a perfect 6-0 to take the title ahead of South Adams (5-1) and Adams Central (4-2).

Mason Winner (195), Zakk Atkins (120) and Ethan Reiley (113) all recorded four pins and finished with perfect 6-0 records to lead the Patriots. Winner, who is ranked third in the state at 182, finished off Xavier Booher of Southern Wells in 12 seconds.



FR girls dominate

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team kept going strong Saturday as it defeated Memorial (St. Mary’s) 82-17 and Marion Local 88-14 for its third double-dual sweep of the week.

The boys team edged Marion Local 46-44. A score for the meet against Memorial was unavailable.

The Bubp sisters each earned two individual wins to lead the Indian girls with Ava taking the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke while Audra was first in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Other victories came from Autumn Burk in the 200 freestyle, Kyra Clark in the 200 freestyle and Shelby Stammen in the 500 freestyle.

Josh Gonzalez picked up the lone victory for the boys team in the 50 freestyle.



Patriots 4th

OSSIAN — Jay County’s boys swim team recorded a fourth-place finish with 129 points Saturday at the Norwell Invitational. The host Knights scored 355 points to lead the eight-team event ahead of Oak Hill (254) and Bluffton (224).

Sophomore Kyle Sanders posted the top individual effort for the Patriots by taking fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.93 seconds. He was also fifth at 24.96 in the 50 freestyle.

JCHS also got fifth-place finishes from Chase McFarland (100 backstroke) and Griffin Mann (100 breaststroke). McFarland was also sixth in the 100 freestyle.

The team’s top relay effort was third in the 200 medley from Reid Claycomb, Sanders, Mann and McFarland.
