East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team stifled the visiting Southern Wells Raiders for a 29-6 victory.
The seventh grade squad fell 23-21.
Sophie Saxman scored eight points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs, who are now 5-2. Cash Hollowell added seven points, and Hannah Laux, Breanna Dirksen and Danielle May each had four.
Cassie Petro’s 11 points were the team high for the seventh graders (4-3). Layliana Eldeeb followed with six points.
Boys drop two
PONETO — East Jay’s boys basketball teams couldn’t keep up with the host Southern Wells Raiders as the eighth graders fell 47-33 Thursday while the seventh grade team suffered a 42-22 defeat.
Sam Myers scored 13 points for the eighth grade squad, which fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. Wesley Bihn was next with six points.
Levi Muhlenkamp had 11 points for the seventh grade Chiefs (1-5, 0-2 ACAC). AJ Myers added five points.
