Rogers L. Durham Jr. age 56, known by everyone as “Rog,” of Portland passed away Sunday Dec. 23, 2019 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after a sudden illness.
Rog was born on Sept. 20, 1963 in Denton, Texas and was adopted by Janice and Rogers Durham on Sept. 27, 1963.
He was a champion Special Olympics swimmer, winning a gold medal at the 1987 International Special Olympics in the Individual Medly Event. He was a client in his 40th year at Jay-Randolph Developmental Services in Portland. He loved swimming, going to the library, reading, listening to music and was an avid Colts fan. He attended Bryant Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his parents, Rogers and Janice Durham of Portland; a brother Stephen Durham (wife: Amy) of Summerville, North Carolina; and a sister Sarah Egly (husband: Glen) of Muncie; two nieces, two nephews and two great nieces.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Van Cise and Ken Fredrickson presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon to 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to Jayland Partners, Jay County Special Olympics, JRDS or the Jay County Library.
