Hits building, van
A Portland man lost control of his vehicle and ran into Jay-Randolph Development Services building and a van that was parked in its lot at 901 E. Water St., Portland, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, causing an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 in damages.
Caleb M. Capetillo, 26, 433 E. Votaw St., said the brakes on his 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck failed, causing him to drive through the intersection of Tallman Street and Jack Street and into the building.
The investigating officers confirmed that the truck’s brakes did fail but that Capetillo was driving “at an unsafe speed,” according to a report by the Portland Police Department.
Capetillo said he was traveling faster than the 10 mph speed limit but could not guess how fast he was traveling. He has not been charged with anything at this time.
The impact with the building caused Capetillo’s front headlight to land 28 feet away from his vehicle.
Nobody was in the 2006 Chevy Uplander that was hit during the crash while parked in front of the building. The vehicle is registered to Jay-Randolph Developmental Services.
Nobody was hospitalized as a result of the crash, though Capetillo refused treatment for his arm, which he said hurt.
