Gary Ireland

Gary L. “Puppy” Ireland, age 80, of Portland passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, in Randolph Nursing Home in Winchester.

He was born in Winchester on Sept. 6, 1939, the son of Willard and June (Frasher) Ireland. He was married March 17, 1995, to Sarah Hartnagel, who survives.

He was retired from ABB (formerly Westinghouse) and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a 1957 Portland High School graduate, a member of American Legion, V.F.W., Arch Bridge Kroozers, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Masonic Lodge in Winchester, and an avid golfer.

Surviving are his wife Sarah; two sons, Vince Ireland of Portland and David Ireland of Portland; four daughters, Deb Singleton (husband: Jeff) of Indianapolis, Kathy Esparza (husband: Dave) of Portland, Denise Morgan (husband: Dave) of Portland and Cindy Negele of Portland; one sister, Gail Compton of Portland; two nephews, Curt Compton of Portland and Troy Compton of Albany; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
