Alta L. Slusser

Alta L. Slusser, age 88, a resident of Portland, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at IU Health Jay. She was a housewife and enjoyed playing shuffleboard. She was a member of the Bellfountain United Methodist Church and active in the ladies aid of the church.

Alta was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of Russell and Mabel (Cantrall) Sockrider. She was married on March 6, 1948, to John E. Slusser and he passed away Jan. 15, 1996.

Survivors include:

A son — Michael Slusser (wife: Marshia), rural Portland

A daughter — Linda Arnold, Marion, Indiana

A foster sister — Mary Lu Premer (husband: Philip), Pennville, Indiana 

Three grandchildren, one great-grandson, three step-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gordon Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery northeast of Portland.
