MUNCIE — Three boys and one girl each took first in a pair of events on Tuesday in helping the Jay County middle school swim team take down both Hagerstown and host Northside.

The boys squad defeated Northside 72-18 and topped Hagerstown 56-39, while the girls beat Northside 69-32 and turned away Hagerstown 73-24.

Wyatt Kunkler, Josh Monroe and Nick Lyons were all dual winners for Jay County. Kunkler had the top spot in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races, while Monroe handled the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. Lyons won the 100 backstroke and diving.

Ralph Link (100 breaststroke) also had an individual win before teaming with Kunkler, Monroe and Lyons to win the 400 freestyle relay.

For the girls, Mara Bader earned victories in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Kenzie Clayton (200 freestyle), Maddy Snow (diving), Morgan DeHoff (100 freestyle) and Aubree Millspaugh (500 freestyle) also won their respective events.

The 200 medley relay of Abby Johnson, Hannah Laux, Bader and DeHoff got a win, as did Carley Jordan, Kenzie Huey, Johnson and Laux in the 200 freestyle relay.

Clayton, Millspaugh, DeHoff and Bader combined to finish the 400 freestyle.

Chiefs trounce Bruins

HARTFORD CITY — The East Jay Middle School wrestling team trounced the host Blackford Bruins on Tuesday, 99-3.

Bryce Wenk, a 160 pounder, and Conner Specht (170) each got pins in the first period. Cameron Clark (110) won by tech fall, 17-1, and Carter Link (106) earned a 17-3 major decision for the Chiefs, who move to 10-3 on the year.

Landon Garringer, Griffin Byrum, Bradin Daniels, Tony Wood, Cody Rowles, Landon Blowers, Zac Brotherton, Grayson Williams, Reed Brandenburg, Tristan Stout, Adryon Miller and Ricky Nava all received forfeits.

Blowers, Brotherton, Brandenburg and Stout each won reserve matches as well.



Eagles fall to Broncos

DALEVILLE — West Jay’s wrestling team fell to the Daleville Broncos on Tuesday, 24-12.

Damien Davis, a 175-pounder, needed just 30 seconds to pin his opponent, and Caleb Weesner got a second-period pin at 102 pounds.
