Betty Derringer

Betty J. Derringer, age 78, of Van Wert, Ohio, and a former Portland resident passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born in Hartford City, Indiana, on Aug. 20, 1940, the daughter of Russell and Madge (Proper) Sills. She was married May 26, 1962, to Tommy J. Derringer, who survives.

She was retired from CTS in Berne after 40 years and was a graduate of Chester Center High School in Wells County.

Surviving are her husband Tommy; one sister, Mary Jackson (husband: Don) of Montpelier; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky Derringer Heimann; and a brother, Charles Sills.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Kelly presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
