MINSTER, Ohio — The Indians missed just two of their seven 3-point attempts.
But they made just two in front of the arc, and had difficulty keeping the basketball.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team fell victim to too many turnovers and poor shooting from close range as they got tripped up by the defending Division IV state champion Minster Wildcats on Thursday, 54-24.
The Indians (4-5, 1-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) trailed the Wildcats (11-0, 3-0 MAC) 25-14 after the first quarter and 37-16 at halftime. The margin continued to blossom in the third as the Tribe was behind 45-21 with one quarter to play.
Fort Recovery, which was led in scoring by Val Muhlenkamp’s 11 points, was 3-of-15 (20 percent) from inside the arc and 5-of-7 from 3-point land.
Paige Fortkamp and Alli Vaughn were second for FRHS with five points.
Stars fall to Tigers
BERNE — South Adams’ boys and girls swim teams both came up short against the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.
The Starfire girls lost 115-53, and the boys dropped a 130-49 score.
Ashley LeFever earned two wins for the SAHS girls, placing first in the 100-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke races. Isabel Von Gunten won the 50 freestyle and Hannah Neuenschwander touched the wall ahead of the field in the 100 butterfly.
The 200 freestyle relay of Isabella Bailey, LeFever, Von Gunten and Neuenschwander were also victorious.
Curtis Sprunger had the only victory for the SAHS boys. He won the 100 breaststroke.
SA boys lose
MONROE — The South Adams Middle School seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams fell to county rival Adams Central on Thursday.
The eighth graders had their rally fall short in a 28-26 loss, and the eighth graders lost, 46-11.
Brady Beall and Brock Banter led the eighth graders (3-6, 2-3 Allen County Athletic Conference) with eight and seven points respectively. Kyle Minger was third with six points.
Graham Subler and Isaac Dee totaled four points apiece for the seventh grade Starfires (3-5, 1-4 ACAC), who did not score in the first period. Oscar Vasquez had three points.
